PREPARING FILES  — Specification for Digital File Acceptance at Martins the Printers.

Martins manufacture books from complete assembled files, which are imaged direct to plate or film. For this we ideally require press-ready PDF or Postscript files. Application files (Quark Express or Pagemaker 6.5) can be accepted for Macintosh formats only.

We prefer to receive a single PDF or Postscript file where possible. If not, one file containing all preliminary matter, another containing all text matter and, if not incorporated with the text file, a final file containing any appendices and/or index. If multiple files are necessary, please use a meaningful naming convention i.e: 00prelims; 01chapter1; 02chapter2; . . . 07chapter7; 08index.

For work processed on a PC, only postscript or PDF files are acceptable.

All files should be accompanied by laser page proofs that you have checked thoroughly and signed off.
